Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded on Friday, January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The sorority was founded by five bright and talented young women, who are referred to as “The 5 Pearls:” Arizona Cleaver Stemmons, Fannie Pettie Watts, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings and Pearl Anna Neal.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was founded on the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love and the Ideal of Finer Womanhood. Our motto is a “community conscious, action-oriented organization.” Zeta Phi Beta has continued to break new ground as:

  • The first sorority to have auxiliary groups

  • The first sorority to have a national headquarters with a salaried staff

  • The first sorority to charter a chapter in Africa

  • The first and only sorority to be constitutionally bond to a fraternity – Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
